As gas prices were escalating uncontrollably earlier in the year, the state Legislature did the unthinkable: They actually suspended their collection of taxes on gasoline. That was no small benefit to motorists, since the amount of the tax reduced was an astounding 16 cents per gallon.
But for this suspension, the crushing prices you were paying in the latter half of the year would have been even higher still.
But the suspension is only until the end of 2022. So get ready for sticker shock as you fill up in the new year.
