On April 19, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilman Michael Loguercio paid a visit to Longwood Junior High School to engage with nearly 100 students participating in the Seal of Civic Readiness program. This initiative offers formal recognition to students demonstrating a high level of proficiency in civic knowledge, skills, mindset, and experiences.

The Seal of Civic Readiness is a distinguished mark on both the student’s high school transcript and diploma, highlighting their understanding and commitment to participatory government, civic responsibility, and values. It underscores the importance of civic engagement and academic scholarship in shaping informed and active citizens.

To achieve the Seal, students must fulfill all requirements for a New York State local or Regents diploma and accumulate a total of six points—ensuring at least two points in Civic Knowledge and two in Civic Participation. Opportunities to earn these points include engaging in projects like a middle school or high school Capstone project.
