Five libraries on eastern Long Island have received construction grants for renovation and improvement projects.
The New York State Education Department and the New York State Library have approved 207 construction awards to projects for public libraries and public library systems in legislative districts throughout New York State. This state aid for library construction helps local libraries and library systems to build new libraries, create additions, update electrical wiring and broadband access to accommodate computer technology, meet standards of energy efficiency, renovate facilities to provide full accessibility to library users with disabilities, and provide meeting rooms to accommodate community needs.
The following libraries are as follows:
- Amagansett Free Library in Amagansett received $109,200 to replace its 20-year-old HVAC system.
- Center Moriches Free Public Library in Center Moriches received $225,000 to construct and install new parking area and renovate the existing parking area.
- Hampton Bays Public Library in Hampton Bays received $27,272 to replace three aged split air conditional systems and expand security camera system in areas not currently covered.
- Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton received $46,373 to upgrade existing emergency exit on lower level to a full access entrance/exit to the library.
“These awards are supported by a $34 million capital fund appropriation in the adopted 2023–24 state budget for library construction and renovation projects,” Assemblyman Fred Thiele (D-Sag Harbor) stated. “I applaud the New York State Education Department and the New York State Library for awarding a portion of this funding to these four fine libraries located in my Assembly district. I am thrilled that so many constituents on the East End will benefit from the enhanced library services made possible through these state funds.”
