A Woodhaven man has been arrested for assault and resisting arrest following a domestic disturbance that occurred at a Mineola residence.

On February 2 at 6:05 p.m., Nassau County police officers from the Third Squad responded to a 2nd Street residence for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, it was determined that Alexis Aleman, 29, of 8944 97th Street, was involved in a verbal argument with family members. The situation escalated and a female resident in fear for her safety called 911.

When police arrived, Aleman fled the scene on foot, but was located nearby. Officers attempted to put him into custody when Aleman allegedly displayed a knife. Officers had to utilize a Taser in order to subdue him and bring him into custody. One officer sustained a laceration to their hand and another officer sustained an injury to his hand, shoulder and knees during the course of the arrest. Both officers were transported to a nearby hospital. Aleman was also transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Aleman was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned on February 3 at First District Court in Hempstead.
