Nassau County Legislator and Deputy Minority Leader Arnold Drucker is asking those responsible who called in a bomb threat at last week’s “Shed The Meds” event in Syosset, causing the event to end prematurely.
On March 11, Drucker (D-Plainview) and the Nassau County Police Department hosted a “Shed the Meds” event at the Syosset Public Library, located at 225 South Oyster Bay Road. At approximately 6:15 p.m., the library received a bomb threat, resulting in those in attendance being evacuated from the building.
Long Island Life & Politics reached out to the NCPD about the incident. A spokesperson said that police evacuated and searched the building and “everything was deemed safe,” but did not have any further comment.
“I was incredibly disappointed and angered that someone would disrupt a worthwhile event like Shed the Meds with a cowardly, unsubstantiated and anonymous bomb threat,” Drucker said. “I implore the perpetrator or perpetrators of this selfish, pointless act to turn themselves in.”
Despite the event being cut short, Drucker said, they were able to collect more than seven garbage bags of unused and unwanted medications, which will be safely disposed of. He also announced that the event will be rescheduled for April 29 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
“Despite having to evacuate, the Syosset community was not deterred,” Drucker added.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the Second Precinct at 516-571-6200.
