A Westbury man has been arrested for a robbery that occurred in New Cassel.
On July 17 at 4:10 a.m., Nassau County police officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance that occurred on Magnolia Avenue. Upon arrival, they saw Ernest Naranjo, 21, of 241 Covert Street, Apt. A, allegedly involved in an argument with his child’s mother. The child was present during the incident.
During the argument, Naranjo allegedly threatened to harm himself with a knife. He also allegedly took the victim’s phone when she made her first attempt to call 911. After he took her phone, she fled to her father’s room and called 911. The defendant also allegedly took this phone after the victim called 911 and again threatened to harm himself. The defendant then left the scene with both phones and used the knife he had taken from the residence to slash the tire of the victim’s car. Police canvassed the area and were able to locate Naranjo and place him under arrest without further incident.
Police charged Naranjo with first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal contempt, fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and endangering the welfare of a child. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 18 at First District Court in Hempstead.
