
A Valley Stream man was arrested for allegedly damaging vehicles, then attempting to flee from the scene.
On May 27 at 1:51 p.m., Shawn Maraj, 31, of 295 W. Valley Stream Boulevard, was observed damaging multiple vehicles on the same street on numerous occasions. When officers arrived, Maraj allegedly immediately entered his 2018 Honda Civic and allegedly deliberately struck an occupied police vehicle multiple times, causing injuries to two officers. Maraj then allegedly drove across a lawn, striking a fence and a bush in an attempt to flee the scene. Subsequent to the investigation, detectives located Maraj and placed him under arrest without incident.
Police charged Maraj with second-degree assault, second-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal mischief and two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment. He was scheduled to be arraigned on May 29 at First District Court in Hempstead.
