An undomiciled male was arrested for stealing a vehicle in Mineola.
Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 11:15 a.m., the female victim, 69, parked her 2011 white Corolla Toyota in a marked parking spot on Jericho Turnpike and left the keys in the center console. The victim was returning to her vehicle when she saw it drive away eastbound on Jericho Turnpike by an unknown subject. She called 911 and reported the incident.
Officers observed the vehicle driving westbound on Jericho Turnpike in the vicinity of Old Courthouse Road. Officers activated their emergency lights and attempted to conduct a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop, but the vehicle refused to pull over. A short time later, the vehicle crashed into a parked car on Central Avenue near 2nd Street in Garden City Park. Police arrested Eleya Dah, 27, without incident.
Dah was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was scheduled to be arraigned on September 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
