Two Men Arrested in Uniondale on Gun and Drug Charges

Two men were arrested in Uniondale after Nassau County police recovered a loaded handgun and suspected crack cocaine during a traffic stop.

On July 29 at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers with the department’s Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team (CIRRT) were patrolling Nassau Road near Stanton Boulevard when they observed a 2017 Chevrolet SUV commit a traffic violation. Officers conducted a stop near Teresa Place in Hempstead.

During the investigation, officers discovered a loaded Taurus 9mm firearm and a substance believed to be crack cocaine inside the vehicle. The driver and passenger were taken into custody without incident.

The driver, Lee Hughes, 51, of 33 E 4th Street, Huntington Station, was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and other traffic violations.

His passenger, Richard Foreman, 38, of 919 Wadesboro Street, North Carolina, was also charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned July 30 at First District Court in Hempstead.
