A Brooklyn man and a Roosevelt woman were arrested for drug possession during a traffic stop in Uniondale.
On January 15 at 3:09 a.m., Nassau County police officers from the First Precinct observed a 2011 white Mercedes-Benz traveling east on Jerusalem Avenue with the rear windows heavily tinted. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop at the intersection of Waypark Avenue and Matteline Street. Police observed Haneef Lamont, 42, in the driver’s seat and Shannon Baxter, 35, in the front passenger’s seat.
During the investigation, officers removed Lamont from the vehicle and, while removing Baxter, officers allegedly heard a noise and saw a black scale with a white, powder-like residue believed to be crack cocaine bounce off the sidewalk behind Lamont. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and recovered 83.7 grams of a white powdery substance believed to be crack cocaine and push rods that contained a powdery-like residue believed to be heroin. Both defendants were arrested without incident.
Subsequent to the investigation, police allegedly found 3.6 grams of a clear plastic bag with a white rocklike substance believed to be crack cocaine and 7.6 grams of a clear plastic baggie containing a brown powdery substance believed to be heroin on Baxter. While Lamont was transported to the First Precinct for arrest processing, officers allegedly recovered 34.2 grams of a large plastic baggie with a rocklike substance believed to crack cocaine. The substance was reportedly found behind the seat of the police vehicle directly behind where defendant Lamont was seated.
Both Baxter and Lamont were being charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree. Lamont was also charged with two counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence. They were arraigned on January 16 at First District Court in Hempstead.
