Three people — including a 17-year-old — have been arrested for allegedly possessing a firearm during a traffic stop in Roosevelt.
On January 3 at 4:30 a.m., Nassau County police officers observed a gray 2014 Chevrolet Impala traveling southbound on Nassau Road, making a turn westbound onto Brookside Avenue with an inoperative headlight and moving unsafely between lanes. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle Traffic Law stop on West Greenwich Avenue near the intersection of Brookside Avenue.
While conducting their investigation, a clear plastic bottle containing a substance believed to be codeine was recovered from the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in a stolen loaded nine-millimeter Taurus G2C handgun reportedly being recovered from the 17-year-old male passenger. The juvenile defendant, along with the other passenger, Khalif Abdul Rector, 19, of 210 Kinsley Road, Pemberton, New Jersey were both placed under arrest without incident.
As officers were placing the driver, Supreme Master Allah Douglas, 18 of 1721 John Street, Merrick, under arrest, he attempted to flee the scene but was stopped and successfully placed under arrest. No injuries reported at the scene.
Police charged Douglas with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Infractions. Rector is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. The juvenile defendant is charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.
