Taxi Driver Attacked in Westbury

A New Cassel man has been arrested for assault in Westbury.

On October 29 at 11 p.m., Sergio Ariel Guevara, 27 of 267 Wright Street, entered into a taxi on Maple Avenue being operated by a 31-year-old male. A physical altercation occurred in which Guevara allegedly displayed a knife and stabbed the driver. He then exited the taxi and the victim fled the scene, calling police a short distance away.

When Nassau County officers from the Third Squad arrived, they observed that the taxi driver sustained a laceration to his left arm and was bleeding excessively. Officers applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. As officers were conducting the investigation and interviewing witnesses, Guevara returned to the scene and was identified by a witness. Officers placed Guevara under arrest without further incident and a knife was recovered. The defendant was transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment.

Police charged Guevara with one count of Assault in the First Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on October 30 at First District Court in Hempstead.
