Selden Man Sentenced for Child Sex Abuse

A 68-year-old Selden man was sentenced to 32 to 57 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing three of his children over a thirteen-year period.

Between 1997 and 2010, the defendant subjected three of his children to ongoing sexual abuse. The children were between the ages of seven and 13 years old at the time and were unable to report the abuse to anyone because they were afraid of being taken away from the family and separated from their siblings. When the three children became adults,  they reported the abuse to the police. (The District Attorney’s Office is not naming the defendant to protect the victims’ identities.)

On November 25, 2024, the defendant was convicted after a jury trial heard before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis, for three counts of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, all Class B violent felonies, and one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a Class D violent felony.

On January 7, 2025, Wilutis sentenced the defendant to 32 to 57 years in prison. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

“It is unconscionable that a father would subject his own children to years of such heinous acts of sexual violence,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “Our hearts go out to the victims for their  bravery in coming forward after everything that they endured.”
