A Queens man has been arrested for an elder scam after he allegedly tried to get a senior to pay to get her Apple account fixed.
According to Nassau County Fraud and Forgery Detectives and detectives from the Fourth Squad, a 66-year-old female victim, while attempting to service her Apple device, was informed by an unknown subject claiming to work for Apple that her account had been compromised.
On February 25, the victim was contacted by an unknown subject and informed that she needed to withdraw $22,500 to help fix her account and arrangements would be made to pick up the cash. Before completing the transaction, the victim contacted police.
That same day, at 2:08 p.m., Changxuan Liu, 32, was located in Oceanside when he was about to pick up the money from the victim, and detectives attempted to place him under arrest. He refused to comply after detectives gave multiple verbal commands for the defendant to stop resisting. Detectives eventually were able to place him into custody.
Police charged Liu with Attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Resisting Arrest. He was issued an appearance ticket and ordered to return to First District Court in Hempstead on March 18.
