
Defendant Barricaded Himself inside House
An Elmont man has been arrested for an incident that occurred in Elmont.
On March 21 at 1 p.m., Nassau County police from the Fifth Squad responded to a Locustwood Boulevard residence for a disturbance. Officers were informed that a verbal argument occurred between Lyadell Sutherland and a female victim, 22. Sutherland prohibited the female victim from leaving his residence and calling 911. He intentionally struck the victim numerous times and forcibly removed her cell phone from her hands.
While at scene, officers were denied access into the home to investigate. After numerous attempts to make contact, Sutherland barricaded himself inside the home, with the victim in a crawlspace. Officers ultimately gained access into the residence and safely located Sutherland and the victim. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. Sutherland was placed under arrest and transported to a nearby hospital.
Sutherland, 30, of 114 Locustwood Boulevard, was charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and tampering with a witness. He was scheduled to be arraigned on March 22 at First District Court in Hempstead.
Further investigation revealed Sutherland was also responsible for an incident that occurred on March 9 and is charged with second-degree assault and strangulation.
