Unsolved Case Being Highlighted As Part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

The Suffolk County Police Department held a special press conference on April 23 to remind everyone that this week is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and to assist law enforcement in providing tips on unsolved cases. Theresa Sexton, whose son, Terry Long, was shot and killed by unknown assailants in front of his Ronkonkoma home two years ago, spoke at the event.
“As members of law enforcement, our job and responsibility is to seek justice for crime victims and their loved ones,” said Suffolk County Police Deputy Commissioner Kevin Catalina. “But we can’t do that without … the members of the community.
As part of National Crime Victims Rights Week, “we are highlighting unsolved cases in hopes of generating new information and bringing justice for victims,” Catalina said.
On April 29, 2022, Long was preparing to take his son Kyree to school and went outside to start his car. His assailants, who were waiting for Long, drove by his house and shot and killed him.
Police released photos of the car, a grey BMW sedan.
“I ask the public, please, if anybody knows anything, please say something,” an emotional Sexton pleaded. “My grandkids are suffering … because their dad is not here with them anymore.”
