Patchogue Code Enforcement Officer Arrested for Misconduct After DWI Stop

A former Patchogue Village code enforcement officer was arrested for unlawfully detaining a woman and conducting a traffic stop outside the scope of his authority, Suffolk County Police said.

William Dymond, 33, of Medford, was charged with multiple crimes, including falsifying business records and official misconduct, after an incident in which he allegedly impersonated a police officer during a suspected DWI stop.

Police say Dymond was on duty on December 29, 2024, when he followed a woman he believed was driving while intoxicated. He pulled her vehicle over around 5:20 a.m. in front of 482 North Ocean Avenue in Patchogue, conducted field sobriety tests, and placed her in handcuffs. Instead of transporting her to a precinct, Dymond allegedly drove the woman to her home in Centereach.

According to Suffolk police, code enforcement officers are not authorized to conduct DWI arrests or detain individuals in that manner. Patchogue Village officials became aware of the incident on March 15 and reported it to the Suffolk County Police Department. Dymond was terminated from his position shortly thereafter.

He was arrested on April 16, 2025 and charged with two felonies — Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree — as well as two misdemeanors, Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree and Official Misconduct.

Investigators are asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Dymond to contact the Suffolk County Fifth Squad at 631-854-8541.
