
A New York City man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill a woman, then stealing her purse last year.
On May 22, 2024 at 12:39 a.m., a female victim was walking eastbound on Front Street in Hempstead near the intersection of Sunset Drive when she was approached by a male subject on a moped. The subject, Frederick Morillo Chavez, allegedly attempted to take the victim’s purse, but the victim fought with him. He then pulled out a handgun and shot the victim, striking her in the right arm, then fled the scene on his moped with the victim’s purse. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
After a thorough investigation, Third Precinct Detectives were able to locate Morillo Chavez, 21, of 500 West 164th Street, New York, New York. He was placed under arrest without incident in front of his residence.
Police charged Morillo Chavez with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree robbery. He is scheduled to be arraigned on May 17, 2025 at First District Court in Hempstead.
