New Jersey Man Arrested for Scamming Woman out of $32,000

A New Jersey man has been arrested for scamming a woman out of $32,000.

for a Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday,  in Roslyn Heights.

October 16, 2024 at 4:48 p.m., the female victim, 65, received a call from Amazon regarding her iPad.  The victim was directed to speak with an agent at the Federal Trade Commission (fTC) to report fraud. After contacting the FTC, the victim was informed that she had open warrants and was directed to meet a federal agent on the corner of Power House Road and Roslyn Road. The victim was told to place $32,000 in a box and put it inside the agent’s car when he arrived.  The victim followed the directions and realized the next morning that she may have been the victim of a scam.

The following day, the victim responded to the Sixth Precinct to report the incident. While at the precinct, the victim was again contacted and directed to meet at the same location with $40,000. Before this exchange took place, detectives placed Malkit Singh, 35, of 57 John Street, Carteret, under arrest without incident. The victim recognized Singh to be the same male who had met her the previous day.

Singh was charged with third-degree grand larceny and third-degree attempted grand larceny.  He was arraigned on October 17 at First District Court in Hempstead.
