New Cassel Man Arrested during Domestic Disturbance

A New Cassel man has been arrested for an assault after police responded to a domestic disturbance.

On January 5 at 9:10 p.m. in New Cassel, Nassau County Third Precinct officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on 3rd Street. Upon arrival, they encountered a female victim who informed them that she had gotten into a verbal argument with her husband, Joel Campbell, 35.

The verbal argument escalated and the victim was thrown on a table. When she got up, Campbell pulled her hair, threw her to the ground and placed his hands around her neck while she was on the ground. The victim refused medical attention. A 10-year-old was at home during the attack, but was not injured. Two officers sustained injuries when Campbell was violent and combative while resisting arrest.

Campbell was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, two counts of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He was arraigned on January 6 at First District Court in Hempstead.
