A Mastic Beach man has been arrested on child pornography charges after New York State police received an online tip.
Investigators from the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NYSP BCI) began an investigation into the possession of child pornography based on a cyber tip generated by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program.
On August 15, the Troop L Computer Crimes Unit, Community Stabilization Unit, and Forensics Investigative Unit, along with the NYSP BCI, executed a search warrant and arrested Guenther Mayrhofer, 71, for promoting a sexual performance by a child.
The NYSP seized items from Mayrhofer’s residence including cell phones, tablets, laptops, hard drives, and other media storage devices, such as SD cards and USB drives.
Mayrhofer was processed at the state police’s Riverside facility, and was charged with six counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child (all Class D felonies) and six counts of possession of a sexual performance by a child (all Class E Felonies).
Mayrhofer was scheduled to be arraigned on August 16 at Suffolk County First District Court.
