Nassau County officers have arrested a man for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

On January 29, at 8:42 a.m. in Uniondale, John Galifianakis, 73, visited the Department of Social Services located at 60 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, posing as a police officer. Galifianakis spoke to an employee asking for help in safeguarding his weapon. The employee quickly informed the police.

After arriving, Galifianakis was located and was discovered to be in possession of a number of fake ID cards, numerous weapons, and additional law enforcement clothing. Further investigation showed that Galifianakis was not a law enforcement officer for any agency, and he was arrested without incident.

Galifianakis was charged with two counts of forgery in the second degree, criminal impersonation, criminal possession of a weapon, and five counts of failing to safeguard a firearm. He was arraigned on January 30 at First District Court in Hempstead.
