Man Arrested for Burglarizing House after Child Calls Police

Suffolk County police arrested a man while he was burglarizing a Medford home after a child hid and called police this afternoon. 

A 12-year-old was at his Eagle Avenue home on December 23 when he reported hearing glass breaking in the kitchen and someone moving around the house. The boy jumped out of his bedroom window and saw an unknown man inside the home. The child hid in the backyard to call police at 12:50 p.m. 

Sixth Precinct patrol officers responded to the house within three minutes of the call and found Christian Garcia had broken a kitchen window and was inside the residence. The child was not injured.  

Garcia, 53, who is undomiciled, was charged with Burglary in the Third Degree and Possession of Burglar’s Tools. He is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 24.
