A Valley Stream man has been arrested for assaulting a woman with a knife at a local deli.
According to Nassau County Fifth Squad detectives, officers responded to J & F Jimenez Deli located at 240 Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream for a disturbance. Upon police arrival, a female victim, 31, stated, while attempting to break up a fight, Jose Velasquez, 38, of 27 W Hawthorne Avenue brandished a knife, resulting in the victim sustaining a laceration to her left hand.
Velasquez was placed under arrest without incident. The victim refused medical attention. No other injuries were reported.
Police charged Velasquez with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned on July 22 at First District Court in Hempstead.
