Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Estranged Wife to Death

Also Allegedly Tried to Kill Himself Afterwards

Suffolk County Police have arrested a man after he allegedly fatally stabbed his estranged wife and then stabbed himself at their home.  

Sixth Precinct officers responded to a Farmingville residence after a 911 caller reported a domestic incident at 8:15 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Adriana Barbosa and Marcos Leal with stab wounds. A teenage child relative, who was in the home at the time of the incident, also suffered injuries during the attack.  

Adriana Barbosa, 46, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The child was also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Marcos Marques-Leal, 57, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  

Homicide Squad detectives charged Leal with Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, and  Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  

Leal will be arraigned at a later date.
