Lynbrook Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting PSEG Employee

A Lynbrook man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a utility company worker in East Rockaway.

According to Nassau County Fourth Squad detectives, on July 19 at 11:03 a.m., a 61-year-old male environmental engineer with PSEG was investigating the presence of hazardous materials on Atlantic Avenue in the vicinity of Marina Pointe Drive. The defendant, John A. Spears, 33, of 123 S. Franklin Avenue, allegedly confronted the worker and a verbal argument ensued. Spears then allegedly struck the victim repeatedly, causing his glasses to fall and break. The victim immediately called 911.

When police arrived, Spears was placed under arrest without incident. The victim suffered pain to his right hand and wrist and was evaluated at the scene but refused further medical treatment. Spears was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

While receiving treatment at the hospital, Spears allegedly became aggressive and irate and repeatedly kicked the wall, causing extensive damage.

Police charged Spears with Assault in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Menacing in the Third Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 20 in First District Court in Hempstead.
