A Long Beach man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he resisted arrest and injured a Nassau County police officer during a confrontation, authorities said.
According to Nassau County police, members of the department’s Fugitive Squad went to the residence of Edward Kenna, 49, on West Broadway around 1:30 p.m. on April 15 to serve an active bench warrant.
Detectives said Kenna refused verbal commands and physically resisted officers as they tried to take him into custody. During the struggle, one officer was injured and later taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation, police said. The nature of the officer’s injuries was not disclosed.
Kenna is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, third-degree bail jumping and an open warrant for second-degree criminal contempt.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
