Locust Valley Man Arrested for Criminal Contempt

Defendant Violated Order of Protection

A Locust Valley man has been arrested for criminal contempt after he violated an Order of Protection.

According to Nassau County Second Squad Detectives, officers responded to a Pershing Avenue residence on August 2o at 2:30 p.m. for a wellness check. When they arrived, the officers were informed that Rasim Velaj, 58, was involved in a verbal argument with a 30-year-old female resident and was refusing to let her leave the home. After a thorough investigation, officers were able to locate the victim unharmed at the above location. Velaj was placed under arrest without incident. Further investigation revealed he was also in violation of an active Order of Protection.

Velaj is charged with first-degree criminal contempt and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. He was arraigned on August 21 at First District Court in Hempstead.
