An Inwood man wanted for four robberies was arrested for allegedly assaulting a Nassau County police officer.
Marvin Mendez Torrez, 24, of 73 Church Street, was allegedly responsible for several petit larcenies, including at the CVS Pharmacy, 530 Burnside Avenue, Inwood on September 10; Marshalls at 345 Rockaway Turnpike, North Lawrence on September 24 and 25; and Lowe’s Home Improvement, 253 Rockaway Turnpike, North Lawrence on September 26.
On October 5 at 12:43 p.m., after conducting an investigation and finding Torrez to be responsible for the above incidents, Fourth Squad Detectives located him near the intersection of Henry Street and Church Street. Torrez fled on foot, but a short time later, he was located in the backyard of a residence located on Henry Street.
A detective sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as Torrez was allegedly violent and combative while resisting arrest. Further investigation led to a glass pipe containing a white residue being recovered. Torrez was transported to a nearby hospital for assessment. The injured detective sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police charged Torrez with Assault in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, four counts of Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned on October 6 at First District Court in Hempstead.
