Investigation into Bomb Threat at Congressman’s Office Continues

By Hank Russell

Nassau County police are still looking into who called in a bomb threat to the Garden City district office of U.S. Congressman Anthony D’Esposito.

According to various news reports, D’Esposito’s office received a phone call on July 12 — the day before the attempted assassination of former president Donald J. Trump — at 1:30 p.m. in which the caller made a “threat to bomb the office.” D’Esposito (R-Island Park), who was not in the office at the time, was taken to a secure location while his staff alerted Nassau County and Capitol police. The staff were evacuated, then let back into the office once law enforcement found no evidence of explosives.

Long Island Life & Politics has reached out to D’Esposito’s office and the Garden City Police Department. Both referred LILP to the Nassau County Police Department.

LILP called the Nassau County Police Department. A spokesperson said that there have been “no updates” as of press time and the investigation is still ongoing.

D’Esposito, a former New York City police officer, was elected Congressman in 2022. He represents the 4th Congressional District, which consists of Mineola, Garden City, Elmont, Hempstead, Merrick, Freeport, Valley Stream, Woodmere, Oceanside, Freeport, Lawrence, Long beach, Lido Beach and Point Lookout.
