A homeless woman was arrested for assaulting a crossing guard in Hewlett.
On January 23 at 8:28 a.m., a Nassau County Police Department crossing guard was covering her school crossing assignment at the intersection of Broadway and Stevenson Avenue. The defendant, Dominga Rudder, 46, approached the crossing guard and started yelling at her. The yelling escalated and Rudder threw several pieces of ice at her, striking her in the leg.
Rudder fled on foot and was located by Nassau County Fourth Precinct officers near the intersection of Broadway and Rockaway Avenue where she was placed into police custody without incident. The victim was treated for her injuries at the scene by a Nassau County Police medic. No other injuries were reported.
While officers were processing the arrest at the Fourth Precinct, Rudder stated that she would kill the officers and knew where the precinct was located.
Rudder was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree menacing, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, second-degree harassment and making a terroristic threat. She will be arraigned on January 24 at First District Court in Hempstead.
