A homeless man has been arrested for assault and allegedly assaulting two police officers will being placed under arrest in Elmont.
On January 20 at 12:30 a.m., Nassau County officers responded to a Holland Avenue residence for a larceny in progress. When they arrived, they saw the rear passenger window of a 2023 Chevrolet broken and there was an unknown male in the backseat. During the investigation, two officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as Maynor Ponce, 41, allegedly became violent and combative while resisting arrest. Subsequent to the investigation the defendant was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Police charged Ponce with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration and an active Nassau County Warrant. He was scheduled to be arraigned on January 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
