A Jamaica woman was arrested for allegedly abusing an elderly patient in Lawrence.
On December 5 at 6 p.m., the nighttime health aide of a 96-year-old female victim arrived to the home to relieve the daytime aide, when she noticed a laceration on the victim, which was not there the night before. The victim was also complaining of leg pain. The night aide called the victim’s legal guardian and 911.
Nassau County officers brought the victim to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment for a broken femur. The victim’s legal guardian watched camera footage from inside the home and observed the victim fall. She then observed the daytime home health aide grab the victim’s leg and shake it aggressively, causing the victim extreme pain. The aide did not call 911 nor get the victim appropriate medical attention. After a thorough investigation, Marie Byron, 65, of 13419 166th Place was arrested without incident.
Police charged Byron with Endangering the Welfare of an Elderly/Incompetent/Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree and Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Physically Disabled Person in the Second Degree. She is scheduled to be arraigned on December 8 at First District Court in Hempstead.
