
A Herricks man was arrested for allegedly assaulting another man with spray paint after breaking into his home in North New Hyde Park.
On April 14 at approximately 5:45 p.m., Nassau County officers responded to a disturbance at a North New Hyde Park residence. After arriving, officers were told that Christopher Collins, 24, of 19 Moore Street, was allegedly involved in an altercation with a male victim, 23.
During the dispute, Collins allegedly physically forced his way into the victim’s home. While inside, Collins allegedly removed a spray paint can from his pocket and sprayed the other man in the face. Collins then allegedly hit the man several times on the head with the spray paint can and a wooden model boat. The victim suffered bruising and a laceration to the back of his head, causing him immense pain.
Eventually, the victim pushed Collins out of his house and called the police. Collins then allegedly grabbed a rock and threw it at the victim’s home, causing damage to the house, before leaving the scene.
Shortly afterward, Collins was found and arrested without incident.
The victim refused medical attention at the scene.
Collins was charged with the following:
- Burglary in the First Degree
- Two Counts of Assault in the Second Degree
- Assault in the Third Degree
- Two Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree
- Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree
Collins was scheduled to be arraigned on April 15 at First District Court.
