Hempstead Man Arrested in New Cassel for Allegedly Assaulting, Robbing Motorcyclist

A Hempstead man was arrested for allegedly beating up and robbing a motorcyclist on a New Cassel intersection.

On April 28 at 4:50 p.m., officers responded to an assault at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Grand Street. A 23-year-old male riding a 1995 Harley-Davidson was stopped at a traffic light when an unknown male subject approached him on foot and allegedly knocked him off his motorcycle. The subject then allegedly struck the victim numerous times, causing substantial pain, before taking the victim’s cell phone and fleeing the scene.

A short time later, Dester Ramirez Hernandez, 32, of 369 Jackson Street, was located and placed under arrest without incident. Both Ramirez Hernandez and the victim were both transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Police charged Ramirez Hernandez with third-degree robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree assault. He was scheduled to be arraigned on April 29 in First District Court in Hempstead.
