
A Hempstead man has been arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon during a traffic stop in Uniondale.
On June 28 at 12:15 a.m., Nassau County police officers observed an electric scooter traveling eastbound on Argyle Avenue near the intersection of Nassau Road with no lights. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. During the investigation, officers attempted to place the subject into custody when he allegedly became violent and combative while resisting arrest.
Police placed Selvin Watts, 42, of 142 Brown Avenue into custody and reportedly recovered a loaded Smith and Wesson 9-millimeter handgun.
Watts was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and multiple Vehicle Traffic Law infractions. He was scheduled to be arraigned on June 28 at First District Court in Hempstead.
