A Hempstead man has been arrested for gun and drug possession and resisting arrest during a traffic stop in Westbury.

On October 14 at 2:22 p.m., Bureau of Special Operations (BSO) officers noticed that Jashawn Ford was not wearing a seatbelt while driving a black 2015 Nissan Altima eastbound on Old Country Road. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law Stop in the vicinity of Merchants Concourse and Taylor Avenue. Before the investigation, officers recovered a loaded Glock 19 handgun and an unlawful amount of cannabis inside the vehicle. When officers attempted to place under arrest, he fled on foot.

Ford was apprehended in a nearby parking lot and one officer sustained injuries as they were attempting to place him into custody. The injured officer was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Ford, 20, of 100 Terrace Avenue, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of cannabis and multiple VTL violations. He was scheduled to be arraigned on October 15 at First District Court in Hempstead.
