Freeport Man Arrested for Shoplifting

A Freeport man was arrested for allegedly selling clothes from a Valley Stream store without paying for them.

On June 26 at 2:40 p.m., Aragon Burgess, 20, of 161 Independence Avenue, entered Macys Men’s Department Store located at 1095 Green Acres Mall and allegedly leaving the store with merchandise without paying for it. After exiting the store without rendering payment, a loss prevention officer confronted Burgess and he threatened to stab the employee before fleeing the scene.

A short while later, Burgess was observed inside Macy’s Women’s Department located at 1000 Green Acres Mall.  He took some of the items and concealed them in a backpack. He then exited the store without paying for these items.  While attempting to flee the scene, Burgess allegedly pushed a male victim, 63, to the ground, causing him to suffer substantial pain.  A police officer also suffered injuries while attempting to apprehend Defendant Burgess.  He was eventually placed into custody and transported to the Fifth Precinct Stationhouse for arrest processing.  While in police custody, Burgess allegedly became extremely irate, uncooperative and spit on two officers.

Police arrested Burgess for second-degree robbery, third-degree robbery, two  counts of second-degree assault, second-degree harassment, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.  He was scheduled to be arraigned on June 27 at First District Court in Hempstead.
