
A 44-year-old Flushing man was arrested for allegedly scamming a 71-year-old female.
On May 22 in North Merrick, a 71-year-old female victim was allegedly text messaged by an unknown person claiming to be a Chase Bank representative. The man stated that fraudulent activity had been detected on her Apple Account, and instructed her to withdraw $30,000 from her Chase Bank account.
Upon returning home with the money, she was advised to meet a Chase Bank courier at the corner of Old Mill Road and Sandra Lane. The victim followed the instructions and handed over the $30,000 to an unknown male. After reporting the incident to the Police, an investigation was conducted and Detectives located the suspect, Dengjin Chen, at his home at 132-05 Avery Avenue in Flushing. He was placed under arrest without further incident, the investigation is still ongoing.
While in custody it was discovered the suspect was involved in another Elder Scam, involving a larceny of $25,000 that occurred on June 4, 2025 in Wilton, Connecticut. First precinct Detectives have contacted the Wilton Police Department and Chen will also be charged there
Chen will be arraigned on June 11 at First District Court, Hempstead. He is charged with Third Degree Grand Larceny.
