Elmont Woman Arrested for Assault, Resisting Arrest

An Elmont woman has been arrested for assaulting another woman and resisting arrest.

On July 28 at 3:25 p.m., officers responded to a Belmont Boulevard residence for a disturbance. Upon police arrival, officers were told that Zaire Steele, 18, was involved in a verbal argument with another woman in the residence. The argument escalated and Steele bit the female victim on the wrist.

While responding officers attempted to place Steele under arrest, she resisted and refused to comply with verbal commands. While she was being placed under arrest, Steele bit one of the officers on the hand and spat at another officer. The first officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Steele was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, second-degree harassment, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree. She was arraigned on July 29 at First District Court in Hempstead.
