An Elmont man was arrested for assaulting a police paramedic in Elmont.
According to Nassau County Fifth Squad detectives, a Nassau County Police paramedic responded to the residence of Joseph Reid, 29, of 281 Norfeld Boulevard on August 16 at 9:30 a.m. Reid called requesting for an ambulance transport.
As the police paramedic was assessing Reid, the defendant became irate and charged at the paramedic, pushing him through a door and onto the porch landing outside. The paramedic suffered severe sharp pain and injury to his left shoulder. Officers placed Reid under arrest without further incident. Both Reid and the paramedic were both transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment.
Reid was charged with second-degree assault. He will be arraigned once it becomes medically practical.
