An Elmont man has been arrested for arson after allegedly setting fire in another person’s apartment.
On September 19 at 11:45 p.m., Nassau County officers from the Fifth Precinct responded to an Elmont residence for a disturbance. When they arrived, it was determined that a 26-year-old female victim who resides at the location received a text message from a housemate asking her if everything was all right because she heard screaming from the victim’s room. The victim, who was not home, then facetimed Supreet Mangat, 30, where she reportedly observed Mangat allegedly acting erratically and damaging property in her room, including setting a chair on fire.
Responding officers reportedly observed Mangat allegedly damaging property. He was placed into police custody without incident.
Mangat was transported by a Nassau County Police Department ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor lacerations; no other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
Poloce charged Mangat with Arson in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree. He was arraigned on September 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
