A 59-year-old Elmont man was arrested after police say he allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at two teenage boys behind a local store.
On April 21 around 6 p.m. behind the 99 Cent & Up Deal store at 1545 Hempstead Turnpike, two 16-year-old boys were in the rear of the store when William Stegman, of Ludlam Place, allegedly peered over his backyard fence and pointed a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun at them.
Police said the teens, fearing for their safety, ran home and told their parents, who then called authorities.
Following an investigation, officers arrested Stegman at his home without incident. A loaded handgun was recovered from the residence.
Stegman is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree menacing, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
