East Meadow Man Arrested for Allegedly Possessing Fireworks

An East Meadow man has been arrested for allegedly possessing fireworks after a traffic stop.

On June 13, a 2005 Cadillac Escalade was traveling eastbound on Front Street with an obstructed license plate. At 5:29 p.m., Bureau of Special Operations Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop in the vicinity of Front Street and Gates Avenue in East Meadow.

During the investigation, officers observed a large quantity of fireworks in the vehicle.  Mario Calderon, 56, of 1636 Dale Avenue, was arrested without incident.

Arson/Bomb Squad Detectives responded to the scene and safely secured the fireworks.

Calderon is charged with Possession of Explosives Without a license, Storage of Explosives, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Revocation and multiple moving violations.  He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 14 at First District Court in Hempstead.
