Dix Hills Man Charged with Allegedly Trying to Have Business Rival Killed

A Dix Hills man has been indicted for allegedly plotting to kidnap and kill a former business associate, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced on July 29.

Navdeep Singh, 48, is accused of offering $100,000 and ten acres of land in India to a would-be hitman in exchange for abducting and murdering a former associate tied to an ongoing legal battle with Singh’s construction company, Gravity Construction Corp.

According to prosecutors, Singh met with the alleged hitman multiple times between May 29 and June 7. During those meetings and phone calls, Singh allegedly handed over surveillance photos of the intended victim, cash, and detailed instructions—including a plan to extort the victim before ordering his death.

On June 3, Singh allegedly instructed the individual to kidnap the victim from his home, hold him in another state for approximately ten days, and coerce a check from the victim’s company. Once the payment cleared, Singh allegedly said the victim should be killed.

Just two days later, Singh allegedly paid the individual $7,000 in cash as a deposit. He also supplied burner phones for communication and drove past the victim’s Nassau County home with the person he believed to be a hired killer.

Authorities say the motive was rooted in a years-long business feud. The intended victim had worked with Singh on a construction project but removed Gravity Construction Corp. from the job, sparking a legal dispute that’s lasted more than two years.

Singh was arrested by the Nassau County Police Department’s District Attorney Squad in Manhasset on June 7.

Singh was arraigned on a 12-count indictment that includes:

  • Two counts of Conspiracy in the Second Degree (a Class B felony)

  • Two counts of Criminal Solicitation in the Second Degree (a Class D felony)

  • Three counts of Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree (a Class E felony)

  • One count of Conspiracy in the Fifth Degree (a misdemeanor)

  • Four counts of Criminal Solicitation in the Fourth Degree (a misdemeanor)

Singh pleaded not guilty and was remanded. He is due back in court on September 4. If convicted on the top charges, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

“A years-long dispute between business rivals took a disturbing turn when this defendant allegedly hired a hitman to kidnap and dispose of his former associate,” Donnelly said in a statement. “The incredible detective work and fast action by the Nassau County Police Department and my office ensured that this plot was never carried out.”
