Coram Man Arrested for Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed Pedestrian

Suffolk County Police arrested a Coram man for leaving the scene of motor vehicle crash that killed a man in Port Jefferson Station in June.

Following an investigation, Major Case Unit detectives charged Jonathan Wibben with leaving the scene of an incident involving a fatality. Wibben, 34, of 174 Sequoia Drive, was scheduled for arraignment on January 30 at Suffolk County Court in Riverhead.

On June 2, 2023 at 10:13 p.m., a male pedestrian was crossing Route 112 eastbound, south of Rose Avenue, when he was struck by a SUV driven by Wibben and heading southbound on Route 112 that fled the scene, then struck by a second southbound vehicle that remained at the scene. The victim, who has not yet been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
