Brooklyn Man Arrested for Identity Theft

A Brooklyn man was arrested for identity theft after allegedly trying to open a credit card using the names of other people.

On May 20 at 3:09 p.m., Nassau County police responded to Best Buy located at 660 Sunrise Highway for a male subject allegedly attempting to apply for a Best Buy Store credit card. An investigation by First Squad detectives revealed that Zhiyong Lin, 27, of 656-55 Street, allegedly tried to open a credit card multiple times using different names and forms of identification.  Lin was placed into custody without incident.

After the investigation, Lin was found to be in possession of the victims’ New York State identification cards.

Detectives are asking those who may have been the victim of Lin to contact the First Squad at 516-573-7153 or Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Police charged Lin with three counts of second-degree identity theft, second-degree attempted identity theft, three counts of second-degree forgery and two counts of third-degree unlawful possession of personal identification. He is scheduled to be arraigned on May 21 at First District Court in Hempstead.
