A Brooklyn man was arrested for allegedly taking part in an “Elder Scam” that involved a Hewlett woman.

On February 6 at 9 a.m., a 90-year-old woman received a phone call from an unknown male claiming to be from the Federal Trade Commission. The unknown male convinced the victim that her identity and Social Security number had been compromised and she needed to withdraw and hand-deliver $10,000. The victim complied.

The following day, the male subject contacted the elderly victim again and requested additional funds. The victim then realized she was being scammed and notified police.

After an extensive investigation, detectives located Zugen Jiang, 28, of 627 46th Street, and placed him under arrest without incident.

Jiang was charged with third-degree grand larceny. He was scheduled to be arraigned on May 4 at First District Court in Hempstead.

The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
