Bronx Man Arrested for Two Elder Scams

A Bronx man has been arrested for his role in two elder scams in Hewlett Harbor and Port Washington.

According to Nassau County Fourth Squad detectives, Jaime Castillo, 36, of 225 149th Street, was involved in defrauding elderly victims. The victims received telephone calls from somebody claiming to be “Raymond Allen,” a lawyer representing the victim’s grandchildren who had been arrested and needed cash for bail. Castillo would then meet with the victims to retrieve the cash.

On June 2, 2023, a 90-year-old female victim from Port Washington was defrauded out of a total of $17,600 over the course of two days for what she believed was bail money.

On July 24, 2023, an 89-year-old female victim from Hewlett Harbor was defrauded out of a total of $7,700 for what she believed was bail money.

Nassau police conducted a joint investigation with the Port Washington Police Department and determined that Castillo was found to be responsible for the above incidents. He was arrested on November 20, 2024, at 12:10 p.m. without incident.

Castillo was charged with four counts of third-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal impersonation and first-degree scheme to defraud. He was arraigned on November 21, 2024 at First District Court in Hempstead.
