Brentwood Man Indicted for Allegedly Selling Cocaine, Gun Possession

A Brentwood man was indicted for allegedly selling cocaine to an undercover officer and owning two loaded guns that were found in his residence.

On four separate occasions throughout last month, Aris A. Chaparro allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover Suffolk County police officer. During each occasion, the undercover officer called Chaparro on his cell phone to arrange the purchase of the cocaine.

Chaparro allegedly instructed the officer to meet him at various locations, including a gas station and a fast-food restaurant in Brentwood. During one of the buys, Chaparro allegedly sold the officer approximately two-and-one-half ounces of cocaine.

On August 6, Suffolk County police executed a court-authorized search warrant at  Chaparro’s home, where they recovered more than a quarter kilogram of cocaine and approximately  $13,000 in cash. Additionally, officers seized a Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum revolver, a defaced Taurus nine-millimeter semiautomatic pistol, two ammunition magazines, multiple cellphones, and drug paraphernalia, including scales, plastic bags, and a ledger.

Chaparro, 55, was arraigned on August 21 on the indictment before Acting Supreme Court Justice Philip Goglas on the following charges:

  • one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, a Class A felony
  • one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, a Class A felony
  • two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, both Class B felonies
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, a Class A felony
  • two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, both Class B felonies
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony
  • three counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, all Class A misdemeanors

Goglas ordered Chaparro held on $250,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or $1,000,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case. Chaparro is due back in court on September 24 and faces up to 24 years in prison if convicted of the top count.

“This defendant allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover police officer on multiple occasions,  leading law enforcement to recover not only narcotics from his home also multiple illegal firearms,  including one with a defaced serial number. These kinds of weapons, combined with drug dealing,  fuel violence and put our community at risk,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “I thank the Suffolk  County Police Department’s Narcotics Section’s work in helping us hold individuals who choose  to profit from selling illicit drugs in Suffolk County fully accountable.”
